Oh this is going to hurt..a lot..He definitely should have left more space between them. He's at least going to try and fall in the water so that his butt doesn't end up hitting the hard ground. And with some strategic flailing for momentum he does manage to fall back into the water. Which means there is now much flailing and splashing in an effort to get his leg out of his counterparts grasp.

"It would be muddying it if I was telling a complete stranger! But all I'm doing is telling myself!"

That's..one way to put it. But honestly at this point his only thought is to not drown in two fee of water and to get himself free.
