It did feel much less daunting to be in this strange place with a familiar face at his side. Being alone wasn't the worst, of course, but company was always better. He followed, even into the suspicious-looking iron box, with its array of softly glowing buttons. There was a slight jolt as the doors closed and the box rose, and Wei Wuxian was terribly curious what sort of system they had rigged to make it work. Pulleys, maybe?
"The inventions here are really something, aren't they? I wonder if they'd let me study them..."
Before he had much time to consider though, the doors slid open, revealing an entirely new floor. He stepped out, suitably impressed, before digging through his pockets. In a moment, he retrieved the room key they'd given him. It seemed more like a talisman or a card really, than any sort of key, but he held it up toward Lan Zhan.
"Oh- they told me this was the key. Do you know how it works?"
