HAPPY HEARTS HOTEL

You wake up in a padded box. It rocks, gently, as though suspended in mid-air. You begin to stir, confusion or distress pushing you to try to sit up — and then the air begins to smell sweet, and you fall back asleep.

You wake up in a padded box. For a moment, you are beatifically calm. You don't know how you got here, or why, but that isn't really all that important. You don't need to know where you are. You're just... here. And here is a wonderful place to be.

But there is a niggling suspicion growing in the back of your mind. A suspicion that here is not somewhere you wanted to be. That it is not where you're supposed to be. You remember... chasing a white rabbit (or was it a person)? A mirror? Bright light, and green ivy crawling over your skin... Before you can worry too much, the box jolts, and then settles, and after a long moment the walls fall from around you to reveal —

A hotel lobby?

"Welcome to the Happy Hearts Hotel and Casino," says an attendant behind a desk. "We're so pleased you could join us. We have your room keys and Empathies here, please make an orderly line and we'll hand them out once we've confirmed identities. After that, feel free to explore the hotel! We highly recommend starting with the casino. Everyone's a winner here in Happy Hearts!"

Is this normal? It doesn't feel normal. And hey — you could swear you had shoes before!

I. TIME TO PARTY

What timing you have, to be arriving at Happy Hearts now! The hotel is bustling, filled to the brim with guests that don't bear the green mark denoting them as Oysters. Hotel staff are equally as busy, catering to the needs of their extra company on top of the Oysters. Musicians arrive in a flurry of fanfare, demanding the attention of everyone in their wake. If the hotel staff are a little more hurried, a little less friendly and accommodating to new Oysters, surely they can be excused, right?

No matter. There's a party to go tonight, the very one that the musicians are here to play at. They set up in the massive pool area, roping off some areas for dancing, others for tables lined with all manner of food and drink. Indulgence teas make an appearance throughout the night. Anyone who drinks one will find themselves with lowered impulse control, lack of restraint, a desire to partake of things they would normally be wary of, giving into their particular vices much more frequently, etc.

If you intended to miss the party, you may find it difficult to ignore. The celebrations spill out of the pool area and into the hotel lobby, the restaurants, the bars, even up onto the floors of the Oysters' rooms. The music is loud enough to be heard anywhere in the hotel, making sleep a difficulty. You might as well enjoy yourself, right? Or perhaps find someone else attempting to avoid the celebration to commiserate with. It will stop some time in the late hours, at least, and all signs of it will be gone the next day.

II. ATTRIBUTABLE TO HUMAN ERROR

Even after the hotel is no longer quite so full, hotel staff always seem in the middle of doing something or other when they're asked for something. There's just not enough time in the day, is there, for everything that must be done? Any Oysters who point out that there seems to be several other staff members mingling about with nothing to do will be met with silence.

But not to worry! All your needs will still be met. The hotel does have its automated customer service system, for times such as these! Computer screens are available at the counter of every store, at every table in the restaurants, at the bar and spa and gym. Calling for room service? Needing more towels at the pool? Want to book a service at the spa or get a drink at the bar? Simply place your request directly with the system, and whatever you desire will be delivered right to you!

There are still some bugs to be worked out, of course. Were those not the clothes you wanted? Oh, dear, perhaps someone else got yours by mistake. You can't even eat whatever type of food was served to you? Better double check the system — and look, what you have in front of you is exactly the order that was placed? Are you sure you're not the one who was mistaken?

A hotel staff member will eventually correct whatever went wrong, should Oysters not being able to sort out the mix up themselves.

III. WERE YOU LOOKING FOR SOMETHING?

Just when it felt like you were getting the layout of the hotel down — you were getting the layout of the hotel down, weren't you? If you thought so before, you may doubt it now. There was a night club here just last night, wasn't there? And a spa over there, a gym just beyond them? If there ever was, there's certainly no sign of them now. There's only a blank wall, a dead end.

Turning to go back the way you came will be of little help. There is no way you came, just another hallway. And another, and another, until you may find yourself quite hopelessly turned around. If you're lucky, it may not be too long before you run into a helpful member of the hotel staff.

They'll be happy to direct you anywhere you need, of course. "The spa?" they'll say. "Do we have a spa? That's news to me. Oh but we're always adding new amenities, of course, that's one of the joys of the Happy Hearts Hotel and Casino!"

Perhaps you'd like directions back to the lobby? Well, they can certainly provide that. You're not alone, are you? A shame. They're much too busy to escort you back themselves. It's a bit of a maze, during renovations, one always easier to navigate with a friend to keep an eye on things.

It won't take long to realize they mean that literally. The hallways don't move as long as someone's watching them, and it will be much easier to follow the staff's directions back to the hotel lobby with one person to look in front and one behind. Hopefully you'll find someone else just as lost as you are.

IV. WELCOME HOME

Maybe you just want to be alone — well, that's what you have your room key for! Oysters room on the second and third floors of the hotel, one to a room. You were assured your room would be exactly what you'd always wished for — and for some, that's right! It's exactly as you would have decorated it yourself. But for others, their rooms are totally wrong. A grizzled cowboy can't have a pink room! Hotel staff are firm, though: every room is exactly as its owner wants it to be. Search your feelings, Oyster. You know it to be true.

On each bed are the Oysters' personal effects, minus weapons, as well as a towel folded in the shape of a heart, and a single foil-wrapped chocolate. If eaten, the chocolate is delicious, and incites a feeling of tender warmth in Oysters — not lust, but a desire for closeness. Why spend time in your room, when you could go find a new friend in the casino?

"Mn, indeed it has. What a strange event though..." This place is full of riddles, and for the last few long moments, he was worried when the walls begin to move.

And yet, he wondered what there's to come? The staff speaks of renovations and new amenities. He wonders if that could be releated.

Upon arriving at the restaurant, with the smell of food in the air, he gently lowers Wei Ying down to his feet. "Are you hungry? I will eat lunch with you."

Once on his feet he turns to face the restaurant with his arms open wide, "It has taken forever but I have finally arrived! I'm twice as hungry now as I was when I started to come here."

He reaches out and takes Lan Wangji's hand to lead him towards a table, "Of course you are going to eat lunch with me. It's now a celebration of our victory."

He inwardly sighs in relief and the beginning of the day begins without a single incident.

Seeing he has a large appetite, he nodded. "Yes, let's get something to eat. I'm very hungry also." And taking his hand, he will follow after him to sit next to him.

Just like routine, a waitress will come to supply them a menu, as usual, pretending like the rest of the staff that this is just another usual day in the hotel.

Most days Wei Wuxian doesn't really care what he has to eat and will just pick something randomly on the menu to try it. Today is much the same unless lan Wangji decides to order something specific for them. but he settles into the seat and asks the waitress for water. Even here and because of the events of late, he has tried to avoid drinking any kind of tea at least for a little while.

Lan Wangji doesn't order anything specific for him. He orders the typical salad and vegan based dishes available, though he eats meat on the side occasionally and orders water and ordinary tea.

"Order whatever you like, Wei Ying." He said. As he knows his diet can be different from him.

He nods and points to a couple things on the menu then hands it to the waitress with a smile. She goes off to fill their orders and Wei Wuxian smiles at the other man.

"I'm glad we made it out of the hallways. What do you think the hotel is up to with all the changes? Is it really being renovated like the staff says?"

Speaking in a hushed whisper, "I'm glad too. I do not know. I was thinking the Queen is in a particular mood to change and renovate her hotel and add amenities."

He becomes quiet when the waitress brought their food, their lunch for the day, and laid the plates on the table. In which Lan Wangji gingerly picks at his food with spoon, fork, and knife and eat in small bite-size.

Wei Wuxian takes a bit bite and chews it silently as he considers it. "Last time the hotel changed we were all missing senses. But when we got them back we had discovered a bunch of new places we couldn't get to before. I hope that the same thing happens this time."

He would enjoy some new things to do. And perhaps they would be places that would be helpful with putting together their wedding. Or maybe even would allow them to go out into the gardens.

With a nod in agreement, as he eats lunch quietly with him. "Perhaps. Whatever the Queen's mood was in. Hopefully, the changes are just renovations." And doesn't affect them in a sense, which he is worried about.

Eating lunch quietly. Although it's a gusu rule to don't eat during meals, he learns he doesn't adhere to the rule and have conversations with him over a meal.

"I have the afternoon free." As usual, since on most days, there's hardly anything to do during the afternoon, other than the nightlife the hotel tends to have.

"Is there something you want to do, Lan Zhan?" His afternoons are always free. It's not like he has anything to do except wander the hotel. They spend most of their time together anyway. But if lan Wangji has something in particular he wants to do then of course he is willing to do it with him.

With a soft hum, "Hmm. Nothing comes to mind. Other than caring for the animals or work on my paintings."

Also about wandering over the hotel, that would be challenging considering the walls constantly move. "And Lil Apple gets restless. Maybe take him out for a walk?"

Wei Wuxian makes an uncertain expression when Lan Wangji mentions taking Lil' Apple out for a walk. "He doesn't do particularly well with the elevator and what if we end up in the changing hallways again? He'll get frustrated pretty fast.."

He knows the donkey should get out of the little area connected to his room once in awhile but the hotel is hardly a great place to have a donkey wandering the halls.

He agrees and see his point, and he can see the uncertainty.

"I can take him out for a walk in the hallway outside of your room. You can take care of the rabbit?" Rabbits are social creature and Lan Wangji tries to figure out a way to obtain another rabbit.

"I can come with you Lan Zhan. The rabbit can go for the walk too." He doesn't mind carrying the rabbit or leading Lil' Apple if Lan Wangji really is going to take the donkey out. He isn't sure how much the donkey is going to enjoy the walk but perhaps a change of scenery will do him good.

"We should make sure Lil' Apple gets to have a part in the wedding so he can be outside for awhile."

Taking his hand and leading him to the elevator to go up. "Let's take them for a walk. It's no good to let them feel coop up in the room for long." A change of scenery will do them good.

"The wedding isn't for another month." Even if he gets to be outside for a single day.

"I don't think Lil' Apple minds too much. I think he hated walking around the hotel more when I took him out last time so he has figured out its quieter in the room. At least the hotel gave him a decent space."

It's not like his room would have been able to handle a donkey before. But now it is almost like he has his own outdoor area. Even Wei Wuxian can appreciate the little grassy area that surrounds the stall. He doesn't question how grass is able to grow inside...but it's just another piece of hotel magic.

Lan Wangji doesn't questioned it either. Somehow, he built a hutch to accommodate for his rabbit. He could only gently squeezed his hand as he leads him back to his room, where Lan Wangji now has moves his belongings including his rabbit to stay with him and protect him.

"Okay. Don't worry. We'll bring his treat, his apples too. Just like what we did back home."

He swings their hands back and forth energetically as they walk. "It won't be just like back home, I won't be riding him." He could probably but he isn't sure Lil' Apple would appreciate it. So he is content to just walk alongside.

It's good to see him with good energy. He sees Wei Wuxian being himself again as he holds his hand all the way to their room where the animals will be where they are.

"Let's take a rest, and then get our pets ready for their walk."
